Dr. Baird’s book is a groundbreaking study that examines gang transnationalism, masculinity, and disorganised violence in Belize City. Drawing connections between urban violence in Central America and communities in the United States, the book offers critical insights into the complex dynamics of systemic inequality and male identity within marginalised urban spaces.
Described by Library Journal as “an illuminating study about gangs and systemic inequality,” the work is based on extensive field research and offers a rare and nuanced view of life in some of the city’s most affected neighbourhoods.
